Update on the Veterans Fund

Happy Belated New Year!
I have some fantastic news about the Pets for U.S. Vets program.  As you know, we started this program back in 2010.  It's now eight years later and the program at the Washington Area Humane Society is rolling right along.  2017 was a wonderful year for adoptions from the program and donations to the Veteran's Fund.

I personally would like to thank Bill Cable from Pennsylvania Star Wars Collecting Society for raising $7119.40 in coin sales. I want to thank the Claysville Legion Riders for raising $2,300 by way of a bike run and gun raffle.  A special thanks goes out to Susan Roberti of "Let's Talk Tailwaggers" at Bethel Park TV for spending so many hours and years talking about this program with me on her show. Many, many animals were adopted because of her broadcasting. There are many others to thank for donations and adoptions. I just don't have all of the names. But, I do have facts and figures.

In 2017, there were 25 dog adoptions through our Veterans Fund totaling $1720 and 10 cat adoptions totaling $420. The adoption fees come out of our fund so our local veterans don't have to pay. We believe that our veterans have paid enough and need to be given special consideration.

Some of the cats that found their forever homes were Minnie, Tigger, Carly, Dusty, Stevie, Lacey, Chandler, Missy and a couple more which weren't named.

Some of the dogs that went out through the program were Bam, Jumper, Cole, June, Hoss, Sly, LuLu, Valor, Marty, Oates, Cinnamon, Toby, Shana, Jughead, Chelsea, Dancer and more which weren't named.

I know that the Washington Area Humane Society is planning an event to benefit the program sometime this Summer. They also have some ideas about helping seniors. I will keep the blog updated as to when and what is going on.
I'm just so proud of our community and the good people in it. Please continue to help by donating to the Pets for U.S. Vets program at the WAHS. Don't forget that if you are a veteran, your best friend is waiting for you at the WAHS at no charge to you.

If you have any ideas or questions about the program, contact Kelly Proudfit, executive director at the WAHS, at kelly@washingtonpashelter.org  You can always email me, Suzi Smith, at dogparty84@aol.com.

USA all the way!

Your Pal,

Suzi Smith
